A factory left-hand-drive model built for export, chassis number LML/576 was produced on 28 October 1953 in original colors of Sea Green over Beige Connolly hides, and was destined for Belgium in February 1954, where its sale was handled by the Ets.
R.
Mannes agency.
Its build sheet notes that it was fitted with heavy duty shock absorbers and specifies other distinct features such as a kph speedometer, which it still retains today.
Its first owner was Andre Pelgrims of Brussels, a member of a prominent local family whose residence, the Maison Pelgrims, exists today as a celebrated art exhibition venue.
While few details of its early European history are known, the DB2/4 eventually made its way to the United States.
It came into the possession of Lance Sterman of Stockbridge, Massachusetts in the early 1980s, and thus would begin a nearly four decade period of enthusiastic ownership.
By 2012, Sterman elected to conduct a comprehensive mechanical overhaul undertaken by the Aston Martin specialists at Steel Wings of Ivyland, Pennsylvania.
This work, completed over a five year period from 2012-2017, is documented in receipts amounting to over $65,000.
A considerable amount of focus was given to the engine, which was carefully disassembled and rebuilt utilizing a billet crankshaft.
Likewise, other systems were rebuilt, serviced, and replaced with the fuel, cooling, braking, and carburetion systems noted as having received attention.
With a view towards driving enjoyment and reliability, certain improvements were made including the addition of upgraded front hubs, an electric fan, and an upgraded oil pump.
The wiring harness and exhaust system were also replaced.
All in all, the mission was to create the ultimate vintage British road rally machine that would fit like an old glove but be backed by a fresh rebuild by one of the most respected names associated with the marque.
With the work complete, Sterman was able to participate in the 2018 AMOC Lime Rock Road Rally.
The DB2/4 quickly captured the attention of AMOC members due to its unique combination of as discovered cosmetic condition in contrast to its rally purpose built mechanicals.
More recently, service work has included a new brake master cylinder as well as new wheel cylinders in 2023.
LML/576 embodies the 1950s British rally car aesthetic, and represents a rare, sporting, highly eligible choice for some of the most prestigious international collector car events, including the Mille Miglia and the California Mille.
As a factory left-hand-drive example still with its original engine and retaining many original features, and with major fettling completed by Steel Wings in recent years, LML/576 is a compelling choice for continued historic event participation, either Stateside or back across the pond.
