Senior Counsel, Director Legal Affairs

SUMMARY The Senior Counsel, Director of Legal Affairs, GSFS will provide legal advice to support the vision and strategic objectives of GSFSGroup and help management build comprehensive and dynamic business plans and programs.
The Director of Legal Affairs will assist the Vice President, Legal Affairs, GSFSGroup in (i) providing counsel and legal advice to the management team on the legal and regulatory requirements and implications of GSFSGroup's business plans and programs and (ii) negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts in furtherance of those plans and programs.
The Director of Legal Affairs will be an integral member of our product teams, leading the legal department's efforts in connection with designing consumer products and services that are competitive and compliant in today's complex regulatory marketplace.
The Director of Legal Affairs will supervise other legal team members in carrying out GSFSGroup's business plans and initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES Provide legal services to GSFSGroup that effectively meets client needs and minimizes risk associated with business transactions.
Work collaboratively with the legal team and clients to provide solutions to all client needs of whatever size and shape.
Advise and counsel officers, executives, managers and associates about all pertinent business and legal matters affecting GSFSGroup; determine legal aspects and prudent action for management to take regarding GSFSGroup's business transactions under the specific circumstances.
Provide advice to ensure GSFSGroup is aware of the requirements of laws and regulations.
Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, processes, practices, and training to ensure that GSFSGroup complies with legal and regulatory requirements, and that associates are knowledgeable of and comply with current federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to GSFSGroup's business.
Effectively communicate with governmental agency personnel to represent or advocate GSFSGroup's plans and positions.
Negotiate, draft and review contracts and agreements.
Lead, motivate and develop legal department associates.
Lead the legal department's efforts in connection with the development, implementation and monitoring of new products, services and programs.
Assist with government relations activities related to GSFSGroup's products and businesses.
Perform other duties and activities as requested in furtherance of GSFSGroup's business plans and programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct supervision of associates in the legal department, including the regulatory compliance team.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training associates, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining associates, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an accredited United States Law School and 10 years of experience as an attorney in a private law firm or public or private company.
Experience in the insurance, regulatory or automobile industries is preferred.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are a must.
The capability of providing self directed client support to meet client's needs without necessity of management oversight.
Detail orientation with exceptional planning and organizational skills, including the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
The ability to handle increasing responsibility and complex assignments.
Thorough understanding of GSFSGroup's industry, products, business and the responsibilities and objectives of the legal department as a whole.
Ability to effectively lead, supervise and develop other associates.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an accredited United States Law School.

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the work day; and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices.
The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus.
The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business.
The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.
TRAVEL REQUIRED Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
