Summary


This internsip will require 2-3 days in the physical office located in Houston Texas (Housing is not provided)

  • This is a 10-week paid learning experience with our team of legal and regulatory experts who support our business clients across the enterprise, providing legal advice and assessing risks to support various business goals. As the Spire commercial team drives the business, the legal, compliance and regulatory team is there to ensure we re on the right path.
  • Working as an Intern on our Legal team means everything from legal and regulatory complexities, legal document preparation, compliance and risk management, and working with legal counsel on topics such as energy project development, commodity transactions agreements, and government relations. Along the way, you will learn the fundamental business components of Spire s three gas-related midstream businesses including the commodity marketing and trading business (Spire Marketing), the interstate gas storage business (Spire Storage West), and the interstate gas pipeline business (Spire STL Pipeline).
  • As an intern, you ll contribute your creativity and great ideas, working alongside innovative colleagues and mentors who will push you to be your very best. We ll give you responsibility to complete projects that make an immediate impact, opportunities to engage with senior leadership and activities to network with your peers across the company.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Review gas purchase and sale contract terms to be consistent with Spire s requirements
  • Collaborate with colleagues to assist with the contract negotiation and administration processes for Spire Marketing
  • Monitor developments in relevant dockets at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
  • Collaborate to prepare submissions to the FERC, as necessary
  • Collaborate to assist the company in standing up an effective compliance program
  • Prepare reports and presentations to management and other key stakeholders concerning pending legal and compliance matters, projects and litigation
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)


  • B.A./B.S. Preferred; successful completion of at least first-year of law school at an ABA-accredited law school
  • Preference given to students with strong academic history
  • Rising junior or senior with 3.0 GPA

Physical demands, environment and schedule


  • Majority of work sitting/standing at a desk in an open concept work environment
  • Intern may be required to travel to St. Louis Office for initial orientation, certain group projects, and to participate in the final intern presentation program

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
