General Information
Reporting to the U.S. Tax Manager in the Houston office, the Senior Tax Analyst will actively participate in TransCanada's tax function to ensure compliance with federal and state tax reporting requirements and ASC740 Accounting for Income Taxes. The Senior U.S. Tax Analyst will provide tax compliance and accounting expertise to various stakeholders including supporting accounting during the quarterly close process and management reporting.
Responsibilities:
Prepare federal corporate/partnership income tax returns;
Prepare separate and combined state income and franchise tax returns;
Calculate and prepare quarterly estimated tax payments;
Review quarterly tax provisions, reconcile current and deferred taxes, and complete schedules for year-end audited statements and FERC regulatory reports;
Prepare financial information for management related to budgets, forecasts and long range planning;
Work with tax depreciation system, analyzing deprecation and gain/loss computations;
Participate in tax audits, including the coordination of information and research of tax issues, making recommendations to management;
Perform tax planning and tax research, including a comprehensive review of tax issues and completion of written memorandums with recommended course of action;
Review of tax legislation, rules and regulations, including identification of issues impacting the Company;
Assist with special projects as assigned by management;
Other tasks as required.
Qualifications and Education
Qualifications:
Considerable experience with federal and state corporate taxation;
In depth working knowledge of Accounting for Income Taxes preferred;
In depth working knowledge of partnership taxation preferred;
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications;
Working knowledge of OneSource tax compliance software and online tax research tools (CCH, Checkpoint and BNA);
Experience in tax research and managing audits;
Experience with Power Tax fixed asset software preferred;
Knowledge of regulated utility tax accounting desirable;
Knowledge of SAP accounting software desirable;
Excellent organizational skills that allow the candidate to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities;
Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
Excellent communication skills;
Strong team player who is able to work well with others and also may lead functional teams or projects;
Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations;
Detail-orientated.
Education/
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting;
Six plus years of related experience in federal and/or state income tax;
CPA designation or equivalent.
