Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Orthopedics - SJMC Physician Services

Under the general direction of the Practice Administrator and supervision of the Attending Physician, the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing orthopedic healthcare to patients and families, focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education and counseling following established guidelines as required and within established scope of practice. Candidate will practice under the direct supervision of an Orthopedic Surgeon and collaborate with a fellow Physician Assistant in a high volume andpatient-oriented Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Practice. Must be able to efficiently collaborate with healthcare team members to manage/coordinate patient care. The physician assistant or nurse practitioner will abide by the lawful and ethical principles of his/her profession and the staff bylaws, rules and policies of IASIS Healthcare.
A) Candidate must have Orthopedic/Emergency experience.
B) Graduate from an accredited advanced practice registered nurse program. (APRN) or Graduate from accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program and successful completion of National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination.
C) Current Licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas if a Nurse Practitioner or Licensed by the Texas Board of Physician Assistants to practice as a Physician Assistant.
D) Recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or the Texas Board of Physician Assistants, as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant qualified to see patients of the ages appropriate to their license and training. (I.e.Family Nurse Practitioners can treat all ages. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners can treat from birth to age 18.)
E) The NP or PA musthold a current prescriptive privilege number granted by the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas/National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). (Eligible to make application for a prescriptive privilege number.)
F) The NP/PA must be eligible for delegated prescriptive privileges by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. (I.e. DPS and DEA number in good standing)
G) Candidate must be willing to travel between 2 clinic locations; Downtown and the Heights.
