Summary:
We are excited to expand our team with a new search for a Drilling Superintendent. This is an exciting career opportunity for a high-performing and experienced Drilling Superintendent or Drilling Operations Manager with strong leadership skills and a proven track record for both Shelf and Deepwater operations. The successful candidate will manage the offshore Drilling and Completion supervisors (both staff and contract) and will be responsible for the performance of all rig-related drilling and completions activities, with direct input in decisions that will determine the operational success of the Company. You will work with a team of highly qualified professionals from the Drilling and Completion Engineering team, Geology, Reservoir, Production, Facilities, Regulatory, and HSE&R departments. Your recommendations will guide all aspects of well drilling and completion operations: operational planning and execution, review of well engineering and well design, rig contractor and service company selection, and management of offshore supervisory staff.
Essential Functions:
Provide leadership, focus and consistency for successful well operations that achieve Company objectives in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Demonstrate leadership in continued successful implementation of W&T's Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS).
Conduct daily morning calls to rigs to review safety performance, discuss planned activities, review any unanticipated issues encountered and the potential revisions to well design or procedures that may be required as a result.
Coordinate with and work cooperatively with Drilling and Completion Engineers during both planning and execution phases of well operations.
Sets and directs work assignments and work priorities of staff and consultant rig supervisors.
Accountable for maintaining high performance level and continuous improvement on operational measures such as AFE vs. Actual cost tracking, Planned vs. Actual time, HSE performance metrics, regulatory compliance metrics and other key drilling and completion performance indicators.
Ensure that lessons learned from operations, incidences and near-misses are documented and disseminated within organization and throughout industry as appropriate.
Selecting, managing and directing drilling contractors and service companies utilized for the work.
Seek to research and introduce cost-effective technologies or procedures to improve safety and operational effectiveness.
Demonstrate leadership of rig operations and SIMOPS activities in the field with regular rig site visits and frequent participation in Production Operation's crew change meetings to advise on ongoing and pending activities.
Coordinate with engineers and co-lead all pre-Spud meetings/DWOPs/CWOPs with rig crews and service company personnel to insure effective communication of well objectives and Company HSE&R performance expectations.
Establish drilling and completion operational guidelines and procedures to further build consistency in operational execution performance, reduce risk and enhance HSE&R performance.
Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Regulatory compliance. Necessity to be observed as an active HSE&R leader and supporter.
Responsible for HSE&R excellence in W&T's D&C operations and in leading operational teams, engineers, supervisors, and onsite contractor groups towards top tier HSE&R performance.
Responsible for assurance of regulatory compliance.
Key member of W&T's Emergency Response Team, Spill Response Team and Source Control Team.
Assume leadership role and provide representation for W&T within HWCG consortium.
Serve as key member of W&T's ICS and emergency response coordinator on D&C or other situations as needed.
Requirements:
BS Degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical) or related discipline preferred
Minimum 15 years' experience as an Offshore Drilling Supervisor and/or Superintendent required; minimum 8 years recent drilling and completion experience in the Gulf of Mexico required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
Demonstrated expertise and experience with jack up, platform and floating rig operations.
Demonstrated experience with rig operations project execution and management required.
Demonstrated experience in, capabilities with and current certification in well control techniques is required.
Experience with coil tubing and snubbing/HWO operations is a plus.
Demonstrated knowledge of offshore drilling, completion and workover technology, pore pressure/fracture gradient prediction, drilling mechanics, directional drilling, drilling fluids, sand control completion technology, cementing, perforating, well control, required.
Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.
Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills, organizational skills, project management skills, risk management skills, and performance management skills, required.
