Job Details
The Houston office of national law firm is actively searching for a dedicated and skilled Associate to become an integral part of its Tax Planning and Business Transactions section. This position is designed for individuals who have over 4 years of meaningful experience - law firm and accounting firms backgrounds will be considered for this position. An LL.M is required for this position.
Responsibilities:
  • Conducting Thorough Tax Research:
    Investigate current tax laws, regulations, and case law to ensure compliance and identify planning opportunities.
  • Developing Tax Planning Strategies:
    Create effective strategies to minimize clients' tax liabilities and maximize compliance with federal, state, and international tax laws.
  • Advising on Business Transactions:
    Provide tax-related advice on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other business transactions to ensure tax efficiency.
  • Drafting Legal Documents:
    Prepare tax opinions, memoranda, and other legal documents that clearly communicate tax advice and strategies to clients.
  • Estate Planning:
    Assist in the planning of estates, including the drafting of wills and trusts, to create tax-efficient transfers of wealth.
  • Representation Before Tax Authorities:
    Represent clients in disputes with tax authorities, including audits, appeals, and litigation.
  • Client Counseling:
    Offer ongoing counsel to clients on tax matters affecting their businesses and personal finances, including new tax law implications.
  • Compliance and Reporting Assistance:
    Help clients with tax compliance, reporting requirements, and documentation for various jurisdictions.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
    Work with accountants, financial planners, and other professionals to provide comprehensive tax advice and planning services.
  • Educational Outreach:
    Keep clients informed about significant tax changes and events through newsletters, seminars, and webinars.
  • Negotiating Tax Settlements:
    Negotiate with tax authorities to resolve back tax liabilities, penalties, and interest through settlements or payment plans.

Admission to the Texas Bar and an LL.M. is required.
1850 billable hour requirement
Extensive opportunity for direct client contact / autonomous handling of matters, as well as opportunities to develop business (though not required)
