We have an exciting opportunity for an Orbital Debris Optical Measurements Analyst to join our team with the Science & Exploration Division.
This is a temporary role not to exceed 19 weeks.
This position will work on the JETS-II Orbital Debris Optical Team providing support in optical measurements and analysis of space debris for NASA's Orbital Debris Program.
NASA uses debris data collected by instruments, such as the Eugene Stansbery-Meter Class Autonomous Telescope, to identify orbital debris brightness, size and orbit information.
Analysis of these data contribute to a better understanding of how the debris environment in Earth orbit is evolving, and is key to building models to predict risk and mitigate further debris events in the future.
The results of this work will be used to help build populations for the next version of the Orbital Debris Engineering Model (ORDEM), which is a critical mission planning tool used by NASA and industry.
Responsibilities:
Review and identify orbital debris targets in images from ground-based telescopes Work closely with JETS-II Orbital Debris Research & Science Operations (ODRSO) colleagues and NASA Orbital Debris Program Office (ODPO) customers Present work products to customers and counterparts (written & verbal) Support and participate in technical interchange meetings Perform other duties as required Requisition
Qualifications:
Typically requires minimum of 2 years of experience in process control and laboratory operations.
Experience with image processing Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision Requisition Preferences:
