Derivative Accounting Manager

Insight Global is seeking a Derivative Accounting Manager (the Manager) for an oil and gas company located in Houston, TX.
You will lead the derivative accounting activities for an ETRM implementation/trading initiative and build a Derivative Accounting Team.
You will report to the Assistant Controller (Financial Reporting & General Accounting) who is the direct report of the Chief Accounting Officer.
This team offers a hybrid schedule where you can work from home one day a week in addition to having every other Friday off (90/80 schedule).
The client is implementing an ETRM solution (RightAngle) to manage its own inventory and for trading purposes.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to establish themselves as a high performer in a fast-paced environment.
You will not only work directly with the Assistant Controller, but also the CAO, the Treasurer, and the CFO, and be viewed as a subject matter expert on all things derivative from financial accounting and reporting to investor relations support.
You will be part of a larger implementation team, including implementation consultants, other folks in accounting, finance, front and mid-office, and will be supported throughout the process from both its peers as well as supervisors.
You will be overseeing a team of 2-3 analysts.
This initiative is big deal for the company and it is something that is high profile and will lead to future opportunities for career progression and promotion.
If the individual successfully manages the derivatives group, he/she will have a plethora of growth opportunities within the company as well as outside of it, as this role will be a great resume builder.
1.
Supervise day-to-day derivative accounting transactions and responsibilities and performance/review of month-end controls.
Requires regular communication with mid-office/risk and trading/supply teams to ensure transactions are effectively identified and accounted for and applying appropriate accounting treatment under relevant accounting standards (collaborating with Technical Accounting personnel, when necessary).

Support the Corporate Finance team for routine and non-routine internal reporting requirements/requests (including estimates and earnings meetings) and lead the quarterly/annual external reporting processes for derivative related matters (earnings calls and financial statements & disclosures).

Develop, implement and maintain derivative accounting policies and procedures and ensure team compliance with such policies and procedures.

Manage and serve as the primary point of contact for all derivative accounting matters with the external auditors.
5.
Leads staff development/education with regard to understanding of risk management strategies, derivative positions and related impact on day-to-day responsibilities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
