JOB SUMMARYAt Houston Methodist, the NTW Phlebotomy EKG Technician position is responsible for performing phlebotomy, other specimen collection procedures, and accurate EKG rhythm interpretation and electrocardiography functions that support the interprofessional healthcare team in delivering high quality, cost-effective care in the Pre-Admission Testing department. This position accurately processes, organizes, orders, labels and transports specimens for laboratory testing. The Phlebotomy EKG Technician position provides for patient care while performing duties, independently handling patient care and technical issues as they arise within the scope of their job. (EF)Follows established procedure for collecting and processing biological specimens. Handles STAT samples expediently. Performs special collections/procedures as directed and according to competency and policies/procedures. Takes personal responsibility for maintaining clean equipment and work area. (EF)Organizes the work flow, problem-solves basic and routine matters, and manages multiple ongoing priorities, seeking guidance and assistance from preceptor, licensed nurse, or management. (EF)Actively works to pursue high levels of patient satisfaction by contributing towards improving department scores for patient satisfaction on unit-based scorecard through peer-to-peer accountability. (EF) QUALITY/SAFETY - 25%Accurately identifies the patient using standardized patient identification protocols and resolves any discrepancies prior to caring for patient. (EF)Performs and records diagnostic measures, treatment and procedures, as determined by skills training and validation (i.e., vital signs, 12 Lead EKG, phlebotomy, specimen collection, immobilization by backboard) in accordance with established policies and procedures. (EF)Performs routine venipuncture by evacuated tube system and syringe method on all patients served. Follows established policies to properly label each specimen container at the time of collection. (EF)Supports initiatives to prevent conditions such as patient falls, and hospital-acquired infections. Contributes towards improving quality and safety scores on department scorecard. (EF) FINANCE - 15%Performs tasks timely to meet department turn-around-times. Minimizes the overuse of supplies and reports low supply inventories as they arise; does not waste supplies. (EF)Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime. Utilizes time between heavy workloads efficiently and helps other team members and performing additional tasks.
