The purpose of this job is to provide overall supervision for all field-engineering activities associated with the construction of a project, including a full range of surveying services that are carried out throughout all phases of the work.
Responsibilities:
Reviews contract documents before the project begins and identifies discrepancies between the site layout plans, architectural plans, and structural plans; initiates a request for information (RFI) to the architect, directly or indirectly, seeking clarification of these dimensions. Utilizing the benchmark provided by the owner and directs a crew in establishing the dimensional control lines and elevations for the project. Works with the independent surveyor, municipal authorities, and other responsible parties to identify all benchmarks, property lines, and property corners that relate to the project site; points out the control lines and elevations established for the project; resolves any problems that arise between the initial layout and the findings of the independent surveyor. Maintains daily contact with field superintendents to stay abreast of changes in the sequence of work; organizes field crews daily to provide the field engineering support needed to support construction activities that day, including monitoring alignment of forms before concrete pours, concrete finishing to the prescribed elevation, placement of anchor bolts, structural steel, embeds openings, penetrations, etc. Periodically monitors dimensional control of subcontracted work. Checks and verifies the accuracy of all dimensions on the plans and shop drawings; initiates RFls in a timely manner to resolve discrepancies before they can cause construction delays. Provides on-the-job training in basic field engineering subjects for subordinates. Assumes overall responsibility for the proper care, maintenance, and security of all engineering instruments, tools, and equipment; may perform intricate adjustments to instruments at prescribed intervals to ensure consistency in measurements. Discusses field construction problems with the superintendent on an ongoing basis, offering ideas that could lead to a solution to the problem; may assist the superintendent in day-to-day supervision of the crafts when so assigned and report quantities of work in place. Assists the superintendent in evaluating the impact of construction activity on adjacent properties, recommending courses of action to minimize risks, damage, or inconvenience to others. Calculates and verifies concrete quantities for defined pouring areas (slabs, columns, walls, etc.) before the superintendent orders concrete. Participates in job site safety as outlined in the company's Safety & Health Manual. Requirements:
B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or related field or, in lieu of degree, 6
years of commercial construction field engineering/surveying experience. Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment). High level of math proficiency. Ability to build and manage direct reports.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Construction & Real EstateEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
