Supervisory Social Worker (Medical Care Line)

Duties include but are not limited to:
The incumbent supervises a group of employees performing work at various GS levels up to their own grade and provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the service. Supervises staff that have various tours to include evenings and weekends. Provides administrative, technical and clinical Social Work Supervision necessary to accomplish the work in the program; performs the administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised; provides formal and informal feedback and evaluates staff performance; completes focused and ongoing practice evaluations on assigned staff. The supervisor approves or disapproves leave requests; ensures that staff are competent to perform duties; ensures needed training is completed; and ensures quality of services provided and documentation of staff in assigned area. Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Reviewing and assuring that the documentation of social work staff reflects the services provided and meets Joint Commission, CARF, Medical Center, and documentation standards and policy. Incumbent will have established guidelines and performance expectations for staff, clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Incumbent schedules regular individual supervisory meetings with staff as well as team meetings. Resolves informal complaints and grievances. S/he provides advice and counsel to staff related to services and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in assigned programs/units. Develops work improvement plans, recommends personnel actions as necessary. Responsible for quality services in assigned areas, including involvement in identification of qualified candidates for vacant positions, development of functional statements and performance standards with personnel. Reviews and recommends serious disciplinary actions involving subordinates. Incumbent assists with determining social work goals and objectives and plan for long range staffing needs in assigned areas. The incumbent provides consultation to social workers and interdisciplinary team members. The incumbent is responsible for development and maintenance of professional standards of practice and educating others about them. The incumbent independently interviews Veterans and their family members/significant others to establish facts about the Veteran's situation, presenting problems and their causes, and the impact of such problems on the Veteran's functioning and health as part of a comprehensive psychosocial assessment. The incumbent interprets and explains VA's treatment and benefit programs. Reviews all data, subjective and objective, and makes a clinical assessment identifying needs and strengths. The incumbent effectively uses professional skill, objectivity, insight, advanced clinical training, and experience to interpret data and to identify viable treatment options. The incumbent assesses high risk factors, acuity, and need for services. Serves Veterans, who tend to have frequent and severe crises, lack family or adequate community support network, are poor at self-monitoring, and frequently fail to comply with instructions and treatment, and/or have significant deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychosocial support. Evaluates the client's situation, including the Veteran's reaction and ability to deal with it, and arrives at a reasoned conclusion. The incumbent uses professional judgment and advanced practice skills, based on the psychosocial assessment, to make diagnosis, as appropriate. Has the ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses. The incumbent assesses at-risk factors and develops a preliminary disposition plan involving the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family and/or significant other. The incumbent performs insightful assessment of serious and complicated cases involving psychiatric illness involving psychiatric, catastrophic medical conditions, dementia and other high-risk diagnoses. The incumbent finds a suitable means of treatment to help Veterans and/or significant others to cope with stressful situations. The incumbent focuses treatment to help Veterans find practical solutions to problems. Work Schedule:

Education.Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. Supervisory Experience Grade Determinations:
Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 (1) Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. (2) Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. (3) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. (4) Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. At the GS-12 grade level, supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below. The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care/product line, or multiple facilities. Must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Social Worker must be able to perform primarily moderate physical demands, with occasional light and sedentary duties, exercise patience, and control emotions, with reasonable accommodation if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of the social worker and others.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
