Supervisory Social Worker

The duties of the Supervisory Social Worker in Veterans Care and Transition Service for the HCHV/GPD program include but are not limited to:
Responsible for the supervision of GPD Liaisons, and the outreach reach staff assigned to the GPD, HCHV, Low Demand, and HCHV Outreach program. Responsible for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services provided, admission criteria of the program, and outreach efforts. Responsible for the fund control points assigned to the GPD and HCHV programs. Manages and controls the use of data related to these programs regarding day to day functioning and program evaluation. In conjunction with the HCHV Program Director, plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, patient and personnel activities for the service. Responsible for the supervision and oversight of these services as well as of the case managers providing care to the veterans who receive services. Administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients. Assist in the development and implementation of information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, equipment utilization and patient satisfaction. Partners with the MEDVAMC Substance Dependence Treatment Program (SDTP), which provides substance abuse treatment for the veterans enrolled in HCHV Community Residential Support Programs. Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions by utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services. Demonstrates the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Coordinates, monitors, and provides guidance of the clinical care and assesses the compliance of the programs receiving per diem payments as described in the grant recipient's original grant application. Performs the administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests. Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained, and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. The incumbent performs a wide range of services and may provide LCSW or student supervision. Independently provides consultation services to other staff regarding the psychosocial needs of Veterans and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to the treatment plan. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http:

VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. This exception only applies at the GS-9 grade level. For the GS-11 grade level and above, the candidate must be licensed or certified. At the time of appointment, the supervisor, chief social work or social work executive will provide the unlicensed/uncertified social worker with the written requirements for licensure or certification, including the time by which the license or certification must be obtained and the consequences for not becoming licensed or certified by the deadline. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Candidate with supervisory, coordinator or senior social worker experience, and experience working with homeless veterans. Grade Determinations:
Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Experience and Education:
In addition to the basic requirements, applicant must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Licensure:
Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. At the GS-12 grade level, supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below. The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care/product line, or multiple facilities. They provide direct clinical services with or without program coordination responsibilities. References:

This position is set in a office setting and will work closely with others. The physical demands may involve moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds), light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulders, walking and standing two or more hours per day, use of fingers and manual dexterity. Will also need to meet the following:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
